Sox won the toss and elected to bat first. Govind and Chandu opened for Sox.Chandu got out in the 5th overs when the score was 35. Malav joined Govind, both of them played some aggressive shots and had a good partnership of 40 runs.Malav was second to go in the 11th over when he was caught brillantly at deep mid wicket.In 11 overs the score read 80 for 2. Prasad joined Govind and could not stay long as he was run out. Kartik Raina joined Govind and both played well and had a quick partnership of 23 runs. In 16th over

Govind got out. In 16 overs score read 119 for 4.

Hardik Joined Kartik Raina.Hardik played some huge shots and kept the score board moving.This time Kartik Raina got run out in the 17th over.Kunal Joined Hardik and both started playing fast trying to get as many runs in the last overs.Kunal got out in the 19th over. Kartik bhat joined Hardik and trying to give strike to Hardik got run out. Promjot joined Hardik and in the last ball got run out.Sox was able to score147 for 8 in 20 overs.

Govind 31, Malav 36 Hardik 17*

4 Run outs, Darshak 2 wickets Arun and Shashank one wicket each.

Berkeley.

Sox opened the bowling with Kartik Raina and Umar. In the first 3 overs Berkeley lost the opener Darshak who was trying to take the third run and a good throw by Umar got him run out.

In the 4th over Umar bowled the second opener and the score read 22 for 2 in 4 overs.

Sox had the first bowling change and in the first over Kunal got Kunal out. In 5 overs the score read 24 for 3.Berkeley 4th wicket partnership start building Hemang and Tejas had a 42 run partnership.The score at the end of 12 overs read 66 for 3

Berkeley needed 82 runs in 8 overs with 7 wickets in hand.In the 13th over second ball jagat got Hemang out a brillant catch by Malav and in the 5th ball jagat got the new batsmen out stumped by Prumjot.In the 15th over jagat got two back to back wickets and was on hatrick.In 15th over the score read 87 for 7. In the 19th over jagat got one more wicket and in the last over Kartik Raina got two wickets, both the catches taken by Kartik bhat.

Finally Berkeley lost all the wickets for 107. Sox won the game by 40 runs.

Tejas 41, Hemang 17.

Jagat 5 wickets, Kartik Raina 2 wickets, Kunal and Umar 1 wicket each and 1 run out.

Sox will meet Mustangs in Final.

Satish Natarajan has been found guilty of leaving his footprints on the first cricket pitch. He still denies it, even though we found that:
Exhibit 1 - all the footprints lead to where he was idling...
Exhibit 2 - there were copious amounts of white paint on the sole of his shoe, when we inverted him. We also found a black golf ball... they apparently use it for 18-18 golf under floodlights. In an unrelated incident, Chandru was looking for the same thing...

Just a quick recap:

Cricnation 189 for 7 (ish) in 20 overs

beat

Santa Clara Champions 105 for 9 in 20 overs

Cricnation batters took advantage of shortish square boundaries in the last 8 overs to rack up a big total against us. we were ok with the ball, no wides or no balls was the highlight of the bowling performance. sadly though, 8 dropped catches (none of them difficult) illustrated the point of catches win matches all too vividly. 9.5 runs per over in any form of cricket and on any ground is a tough ask. Kapil batted very well for his 38 (odd) but didnt find any support from the rest of the order. in the end, too many runs to chase down.

Report:
Seas bowled well to retrict TU to 174. Mitul played well for his 46, and Faaqer scored a patient 29. Ashish was the pick of the bowlers and Hardik and debutant Srinivas supported him well.
Mangesh bowled a brilliant spell but dropped catches did not help his figures.

Seas started well putting on 100 runs in the 20th over for the loss of 3 wkts. Raju played an impressive kncok of 57, in spite of a disciplined opening bowling attack. Khurrum and Tarun applied the brakes and 4 wkts fell in succession for 10 runs. After some late order flourish from Vijay, TU prevailed and won by 24 runs. Mitul was again the wrecker-in-chief, finishing with a 5-for.

Very good umpiring from Zahid and Yasir from Tracy.

Match Report :

Seas posted a score of 178, aided by a chanceless, well-paced knock of 75 from Vikram. Seas were 47/4 at 15 overs, 100/5 at 30 and Ashish pushed up the run rate in the final 15 with a well made 21 runs. Deval was the pick of the Spartan bowling grabbing 3 wkts.

Spartan started their reply well, going at more than 7 runs an over aided by some poor bowling and a fast outfield. An unbroken fourth wicket partnership of 110 runs between Rahul and Chad sealed the game for the Spartan team. Congrats to Rahul for a very fine knock.

Umpiring from Stanford A-III was good and consistent.

Prasad Shetty's Season

S! is pleased to present the journal of one of its favorite SCCC Alums P Diddy Shetty who having relocated to the south of England continues to play for a local Club in Sussex County. Here's his season and some pictures, in his own words. Cheers !

I joined St James's Montefiore Cricket Club, Brighton in Jan 2006. The sessions started with the Winter practice sessions in the Sussex Cricket Ground's indoor facilities. We play in East Sussex League this year winning the championship (East Sussex League Division 5 Championship) moving up the ladder to Division 4 next year.The one on the right is Simon (Captain) and on the left is Hutch (vice captain).

The games here have a very interesting concept differing from the ones in US. Even though its a one day game its more geared to a Test match from my point of view. Its a time based game where the team batting first gets 50 overs or the time alloted whichever comes later. The team chasing the target gets lesser time to chase it. But the team batting first can
declare earlier than their quoto and use that extra time to bowl out the opposition. All three results are possible win, loss or draw. Everywhere I went the grounds were fantastics and scenic background were quite a sight.

Personally didn't have a great start to the season. First game, conditions were unlike I have ever played cricket in my life. It was 2.00 pm and with dark clouds (almost like playing in the night) and slight drizzle we up took batting first. I opened the batting (not sure why I did that) and after the bowler's intial release, never saw the ball land or for that matter crash into my leg stump. My first game on a real turf pitch in probably 10 years and what a start!!! From there on started to get used to the pitches and got 348 runs in 9 games with 5 not outs. Here's hoping to continue a decent run in a more competitive Division 4 league.

Pakistan Cricket Team did the right thing ..

Extracted from a thread discussing the controversy surrounding the Umpires' decision to accuse Pakistan of tampering with the ball and then awarding the match to England when Pakistan team delayed their arrival on the field in protest. The author(s) are long standing SCCC Members.

he (Hair) even got under the skin of Gary Kirsten and Shaun Pollock and he moved from Australia to England because he was in trouble with Cricket Australia..  I think he is just a egoistic difficult guy who has very strong opinions and silly enough to react quickly on them before verifying the details....

I wish ICC could conclude this with Greg's question ..  but that would be too simple.

the problem i have with this game is that the laws and the tools are so open that personalities (players, umpires) can play a role in a match.   this happens everyday at all levels.

for example: the law that talks about ball tampering has no clause that says that the umpire needs to provide evidence .. period..

the law in itself concludes that umpires are above human with a "moral" code and there can be no personality such as a Hair who would make decisions that can hurt a nation and deprive the general public of a  great match.  so Hair gets away for doing everything by the letter of the law, just because he "felt" that Pakistan have indeed tampered with the ball.

ICC will take the high ground and say that they will have to punish Inzamam, so that this never (protest in the middle of the day) repeats in the future...  just like they did in the case, where they did not overrule the punishment to a bunch of folks including Sachin to uphold the "match refree's" decision for "ball" tampering...  which was done even with the video footage evidence that clearly showed him cleaning the ball.

ICC have a responsibility and they cannot really side with a team if they have a choice of backing their employee..  If they back Pakistan in this case, they will completely lose their credibility.  Other teams will assume that they can also protest for some other situation that "they" feel was at the receiving end of a umpire's call..

It is  an aweful lose-lose situation.

the solution is elsewhere (tightening up the law to avoid any personal or personality issues) and "then" be punitive, but quick punitive measures or silly science experiments of measuring 15 degress is all that the inept ICC can do.

Somehow, tampering the ball get 5 penalty points without evidence..  but Alistair Cook (and many many other players) not walking after a huge nick that can be seen on the TV replays (which can also be concluded as bringing disrepute to the "moral" game of cricket) is perfectly fine.  Again, another instance that brings "personalities" into play..  the law can simply be, if the TV replay is clear, the guy is out..  why leave it to the player and the umpire, when millions can see what the fact is...  that is, i am talking of situations where you can conclude very clearly from the replay.

With so much money/progress on the line, it would great to forget all  those silly phrases like "it is not cricket" etc.. and instead of swimming in some silly nostalgic past, move the sport into the future with a very decisive set of rules..

a) The All Star game will promptly begin at 10.30am and will be 30 overs/inning.
b) There will be field restrictions of only 2 fielders allowed outside the 30-yard circle for the first 5 and the last 5 overs of each inning.
c) Every bowler will be allowed to bowl a maximum of 5-overs.
d) The Super-Sub rule will be implemented.
e) There will be an hour long lunch break during which the Super 6's contest will be held.
Super 6's Contest :
Rules :
A) A hitter faces 6 balls from the BOLA bowling machine to hit as many 6's as possible.
B) A hitter who hits the most 6's wins. If the number of 6's hit are tied, then the one who's hit most 4's wins.
C) Organizers' decision is final.
D) If for any reason, invitee(s) pull out at the last moment, organizers will invite other interested contestants.
We will also distribute the DirecTV Sponsorship merchandise to all the teams on Saturday, so it is required for team representatives to come pick up the merchandise.

Match Summary :

SCCC II got of to a poor Start and kept losing wickets at regular intervals. Amit Seth anchored the innings somewhat to help SCCC II get past the 100 mark. Ravi Shankar, Chandrodaya and Dawood lent Amit support to put up the total.

Caribean got off to a worse start and lost 3 early wickets with Puneet being the chief destroyer. Harmeek Played a small Cameo before getting LBW to Hasan Imam leaving the game in fine balance. Solid Batting by youngsters Sher Ali and Saaqib aided by some poor fielding by SCCC II let caribean reach the Target.

First of all, OUTSTANDING conditions for quality cricket at our
ground. superb cover drives going for 4s, flicks/glances bringing 2s,
bad balls perishing for 4s. God keep excessive sprinklers away from
the ground :-))

Aces fielded and bowled well to restric davis to 152. Jay played a
patient knock and had a good partnership with Rohit T which took them
from 60/6 to a reasonable total. Rohit was outstanding behind wkts

Aces made a mess of an easy chase primarily because of loose shots
from top order. We played too many balls in the air when it was
absolutely not required. Ahmad played a cameo of 25 runs with a
special six over point of an off-spinner. Sri and ahmad had a good
30+ run partnership. however, wkt fell at regular intervals. Sujesh
played a very sensible knock of 15* in 73 balls. Rohit got his 23
primarily thru some drives and cuts all along the ground. when
everything looked good for aces, a needless runout put pressure on us.
As always we had Vijith to finish the game for us by hitting 12 runs
of balbhir's 3rd over.

As you are all aware by now, we have lost a bright star in our Cricket Universe. As Ganesh (NCCA Secretary and Valley Cricketers member) reported, Fardin Qayummi was snatched away from his family and the rest of us a couple of days ago.
